Keeneland Race Course Planning To Host 2015 Breeders' Cup

It's not official yet, but there's word that Keeneland Race Course will be hosting the 2015 Breeders' Cup.
Since 1984, the Breeders’ Cup has been held at Churchill Downs eight times.

According to the Courier Journal in Louisville in 2015 the Breeders’ Cup will be held at Keeneland Race Course.

A University of Louisville Study found the Breeders’ Cup provided 53.3 million dollars in new revenues across the region in 2010 when it was held at Churchill Downs.

A local business owner said this is huge for downtown Lexington.

"Be absolutely phenomenal for downtown Lexington for all the region, especially for the hotels in the area. It will certainly fill up and bring a lot of people to town that haven't been here before," said Marty Rothchild, GM, Hilton Hotel.

He also said that Breeders' Cup contacted him about hosting some of their officials and attendees at Hilton.

Breeders’ Cup is expected to make an official statement on June 24th.

They did release this statement Tuesday: "It is Breeders’ Cup policy not to discuss or comment on future host site selection until an official announcement has been made. We look forward to providing news regarding future host site selection for the World Championships at that time.”

Churchill Downs said they have not received the official word but released this statement.

“Congratulations to the three racetracks chosen as host sites for the next three renewals of the Breeders’ Cup Championships – especially to Keeneland and Del Mar, which will those the championships for the first time. It’s especially good news that the Breeders’ Cup will be coming back home to Kentucky with its stop at Keeneland in 2015. The event was the brainchild of breeding legend John Gaines and its Kentucky origin is one of the primary reasons that we consider it an honor that Churchill Downs has hosted the Breeders’ Cup eight times. The return of the Breeders’ Cup to Kentucky is good news for our state and great news for its signature horse industry. We wish the team at Keeneland the very best as it plans for next year’s event.”
