Governor Steve Beshear has ordered flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Friday. He said the order was made in honor of a Kentucky soldier who died during World War II.

The Department of Defense said the remains of Army Pfc. William T. Carneal, 24, of Paducah, were recently identified.

Carneal was reported missing in action in 1944 and declared dead a year later.

His remains were found in March of 2013 on the northern coastline of Saipan Island.

Funeral services for Pfc. Carneal will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Lindsey Funeral Home in Paducah.
