Kentucky State University basketball player Devan Crain, 24, of Frankfort, was kicked off the team after being accused of firing gunshots into an apartment complex clubhouse, according to a report in The State Journal.

The newspaper quoted a Frankfort Police captain who said Crain admitted to investigators that he had fired shots into the Riverford Crossing apartments clubhouse on John Davis Driver on February 27, 2014.

Police said no one was hit or injured, but the damage to the building was estimated at $2,000.

The newspaper reported that Crain was indicted on charges of 1st Degree Criminal Mischief and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

The paper reported that the handgun reportedly used in the shooting was recovered at an off-campus residence.

Prosecutor Larry Cleveland told the newspaper that Crain reportedly fired the shots out of a car window.

The paper reported that Crain recently made sports headlines when he missed a last second free throw that could have sent a game against Kentucky Wesleyan into overtime.

KSU's athletics director confirmed that Crain was no longer on the team, but would not give a reason for the dismissal.
