A Fayette Circuit Court jury recommended 35-years in prison after finding Sidney Lane Williams, Junior, 38, guilty of first-degree manslaughter on Thursday.
He was also convicted of tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.
Williams shot and killed Victor Martin, 39, at a home on Alabama Avenue in Lexington in 2010.
Williams admitted he put Martin's body in a bag, dumped it in a driveway along Russell Cave Road and set it on fire.
Williams claimed he killed Martin in self-defense.
Williams is scheduled to be sentenced February 22, 2013.
