A federal judge has cleared the way for former Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner to travel to Florida for five days to watch his son play basketball.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert E. Wier approved Richie Farmer's request to travel outside southern Kentucky from Dec. 26 through Dec. 31.

Farmer pleaded guilty earlier this year to government corruption charges in a deal with prosecutors.

The former University of Kentucky basketball star-turned-politician faces about two years in prison for misdeeds while serving as the state's agriculture commissioner. He is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court in Frankfort in January.

Farmer was a shooting guard for the Wildcats from 1988 to 1992, a team known as "The Unforgettables." His jersey hangs as a monument in the rafters of Rupp Arena.
