A temporary mayor is now in place in Barbourville, just two days after David Thompson was removed by city council members, according to The Mountain Advocate newspaper.

The paper reports that council member Darren West was sworn in by a majority vote.

Thompson was ousted Wednesday after an audit revealed Barbourville's money was being misused.

He had been in office since 2007.
