Police said an inmate overpowered a correction officer at a Central Kentucky rest area bathroom, then led police on a car chase that ended with a crash.

Investigators said Fabian Valentine, 37, was being taken from the Louisville courthouse to the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in West Liberty Friday when he escaped.

Even in handcuffs, they said Valentine was able to take the correctional officer's gun before driving off in an SUV that was parked at the rest area.

Witnesses said he threatened people at the rest stop and demanded a car.  He then reportedly stole one and took off down the interstate.

The police chase lasted around 10 minutes according to investigators.  They said Valentine rammed a police cruiser before crashing on I-64.

Deputies said Valentine was arrested at the crash scene around mile marker 35, which is near Shelbyville.

No one was hurt in the incident.
