Inmate Escapes In Jackson County

State Police said Steven Sparks, 28, pretended to be ill and escaped from a police cruiser near Tyner in Jackson County on Friday.
State Police said an inmate escaped Friday afternoon in Jackson County after pretending to be ill.

Investigators said Steven Sparks, 28, was arrested in Manchester in Clay County on a bench warrant in Jackson County for receiving stolen property.

Investigators said while Sparks was being transported in a cruiser, he said he was feeling sick and asked officers to pull over.

Investigators said Sparks got away near Tyner on Oak Grove Road.

State Police said Sparks was wearing jeans, a red shirt and was still in handcuffs.

Troopers and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office are searching for Sparks.
