Illegal Alien Sentenced For Firearm Offense

Joel Sanchez-Ramos, 27, was sentenced.
An illegal alien from Mexico, who previously admitted he threatened to shoot the owner of a Shelbyville, Ky., restaurant, was sentenced to 37 months in prison for a firearm offense.

Joel Sanchez-Ramos, 27, was sentenced Tuesday for being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm.

Sanchez-Ramos admitted that in April of last year he pointed a gun at another man in the restaurant. When the restaurant owner told Sanchez-Ramos to put the gun down, the defendant threatened to shoot the owner and a fight ensued.

According to the plea agreement, the gun discharged during the altercation but the owner was able to push or knock
the gun away from Sanchez-Ramos. He fled the restaurant on foot and was chased by police officers, before
they found him hiding in some thick vegetation.

Sanchez-Ramos has been deported back to Mexico two previous times and there was no record of him legally entering the U.S.
