Lexington Police said a horse was thrown from a trailer when the horse trailer it was riding in was rear-ended today on I-75 just after 10 a.m.

Officers say a truck which was pulling a trailer carrying a horse at the time was hit from behind by a mini-van. They said the trailer detached and flew into the median and the horse was thrown from the trailer.

Animal Control took the horse to Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington where officers said the horse is expected to live.

Police said the trailer was completely destroyed. The driver of the mini-van was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police shut down the southbound lane of I-75 was shut down for two hours.

No charges have been filed.
