Homeless Shelter Extends Hours During Extreme Cold

The Catholic Action Center is keeping its doors open 24 hours a day during the extreme cold.
The Catholic Action Center serves the homeless and others in need 3 meals a day.

After dinner, the center usually closes at 7:00 each night, but that is not the case this week.

The center, on East 5th St. in Lexington, will be staying open 24 hours a day to provide a warm shelter for the homeless and anyone else looking for a warm room to rest in.

The extended hours will continue through Saturday, but may continue further if the snow and extreme cold continue.

The Community Inn on Winchester Rd. will continue to operate on its regular overnight schedule.

Ginny Ramsey, the center's director, says one of their homeless guests died in Lexington last weekend due to exposure to the cold.
