Heavy rain closed a road in Rockcastle County early Wednesday morning.

The water has since gone down and the diversion along KY 1505 in Brodhead is now open.

As more rain is expected, it could flood again and it’s causing a headache for people who live there.

“Seems like every time it rains, it floods out and we always have this problem,” said Frank Woodall who lives in Brodhead and like many people uses the diversion to get in and out of town.

It’s one of the only ways to get in and out of the city and it closed about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday when the Dix River flooded.

Drivers had to take a 13 mile detour up to Mount Vernon which took around 20 minutes.

In November, the bridge that crosses the Dix River going into Brodhead was deemed unsafe and while a temporary road was built people had to take the detour.
The temporary road was what flooded Wednesday.
“Just the amount and the size of this creek, we anticipated with heavy rains and stuff it would probably wash,” said Amber Hale with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.  “This was the best solution that our engineers could come up with at the time.”

Construction is expected to start on a new bridge next month and it’s expected to be open by the summer.
