LEXINGTON, Ky. — A health fair held on April 1 will promote the importance of healthy aging and prevention practices.

Sanders-Brown Center on Aging will hold its 5th Annual Mind Matters Health Fair on Monday, April 1, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Fayette County Extension Office located at 1140 Red Mile Place in Lexington.

This year, information will be centered on education about reducing the vascular risk factors that have been linked to Alzheimer's disease, such as nutrition, and physical and mental exercise.  There will be interactive workshops, information booths, and health and memory screens for older adults and their families.

There will be more than 20 booths and health screens at the health fair including booths from the UK Stroke Care Network SCOPE Program and the UK Physical Therapy Department & Aegis Therapy Services.

At 11:30 a.m. presentations will begin with a health cooking demonstration by Chef Ouita Michel of Holly Hill Inn, followed by a lunch buffet. There will be three other presentations: "Vascular Risk Factors and Heart Health" at 12:45 p.m., "Neurological Changes in the Brain" at 1:30 p.m., and "Creativity and the Brain" at 2:15 p.m. The exhibit booths and health screens will be open during the presentations.

Admission to the health fair is free and open to the general public. There will be door prizes and giveaways, and lunch and refreshments are provided. For more information, contact the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging at (859) 323-5550.
