A New Year's celebration put one man in the hospital with a gunshot wound, according to the Harrison County Sheriff's Office.

They say Dustin Mullins and Timothy Turner were driving around Cynthiana as the new year approached, with Turner riding in the backseat.

When the clock struck midnight, the Sheriff says they pulled over to celebrate the arrival of 2014 by firing off a gun.

They say the gun jammed, so the two men got back on the road.

Officers say Turner kept working with the gun, which caused it to go off. Mullins was hit through the driver's seat in his lung and spleen.

He is in serious condition at UK hospital.

Turner was charged with wanton endangerment and taken to the Harrison County Detention Center.
