The Fayette County School System says a loaded handgun was found Thursday, in a backpack, in a trash bin, near "It's About Kids" Support Services on Main Street in Lexington.
Lisa Deffendall, media relations person for the school system, says they don't believe the gun was ever in the building, which is home to two education programs -- Alternative Integrated Model and Project Rebound.
Deffendall says a student was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on campus. She also says there's no indication he intended to harm anyone.
