The memorial, located alongside the Boone National Guard Center, has been in the works for almost ten years.

When completed, it will honor nearly 500 Citizen Soldiers and Airmen who sacrificed their lives serving their country on both domestic and foreign soil.

Their names will be inscribed on a large marble cutout in the shape of Kentucky, with a large bronze statue of Daniel Boone posed before it.

A dedication ceremony for the finished memorial is tentatively scheduled for Veterans Day next November.
