Alison Lundergan Grimes, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate from Kentucky, raised $2.5 million from July to September, according to new numbers.

That compares to $2.3 million raised by Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican incumbent seeking his sixth term. But the McConnell campaign reports having $17.7 million on hand for the race.

Jonathan Hurst, a political advisor to Grimes, says she has received support from 13,300 individual contributors.
