Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes has announced she will run against Senate Republican Leader Mitch Mcconnell in next year's election.

Grimes made the announcement in Frankfort on Monday afternoon. She had been considering whether or not to go into the race over the past few months, since actress Ashley Judd opted out of the race in March.

"I'm here to tell you that I have met with my supporters, we have had a great conversation and determined and decided that we can next make the best difference in the Commonwealth of Kentucky by running for the U.S. Senate," said Grimes.

Grimes is considered by some to be the best hope of unseating McConnell next year. She says McConnell has "lost touch" with Kentucky voter, and added she's no stranger to being an underdog in a race.
