Kentucky lawmakers have one more chance this year to crack down on rogue pain clinics.
Lawmakers have one more chance this year to crack down on rogue pain clinics.

They are scheduled to return to Frankfort on Thursday for their veto day. The so-called "pill mill bill" would limit ownership of pain clinics to doctors and move electronic monitoring of prescriptions under the attorney general's office.

The Kentucky Medical Association is lobbying hard to keep the monitoring program out of the attorney general's hands.   Governor Steve Beshear says that's  an "essential" part of slowing abuse of prescription pills. Beshear says the doctor's group should help crack down on bogus pain clinics.

He says he remains "fairly confident" a "pill mill bill" will be passed by the legislature during its final day of the 2012 session.
