Galbraith Remembered At Service

A Kentucky icon is remembered by those who knew and loved him.

A big crowd Thursday, as Gatewood Galbraith was publicly honored at the Carnegie Center in Lexington.

Many who knew him best shared stories about the colorful lawyer, author, and frequent candidate.

Among those speaking were Representative Ben Chandler, Lexington Mayor Jim Gray, and two of Galbraith's daughters.

"As a little girl, he seemed to be 10 feet tall, bigger than life, ready to take on the world... and that never changed," recalled a tearful Abby Sears Galbraith.

People were asked to bring a hat and "throw it in the ring" just like Galbraith would say when he would announce his candidacies.

Galbraith died last week from complications from chronic emphysema.
