George Rogers Clark High School almost lost a $700 thousand grant for a new football field because they couldn’t complete the project this year. The grant was only supposed to be good for 2013, but the school has now been given an extension.

GRC Head Football Coach Steven Collins said they have an extra year to get approval from the school board and find a private donor to complete the $1.2 million project.

Several things stopped the district from putting in a turf field this year according to Collins.

“We were kinda caught in a tough time,” Collins said. “Transition to a new superintendent, a brand new high school, and new elementary school. So there was a lot of scrambling going on in June and late July.”

After the football season, Collins said they will focus on the new field again. He said the superintendent and community have been supportive of the project.

They are also looking at moving the football field next to the new high school.
