Funeral arrangements have been set for prominent Kentucky businessman Elmer Whitaker.

Whitaker, 85, passed away Sunday from complications due to diabetes.

The philanthropist was a self-made millionaire.

He grew up a coal miner in Leslie County, where he began Whitaker Coal Corporation.

Whitaker went into banking in the late 1970's, building one of the largest operations in the state.

The visitation is this Thursday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 at Old Paris Road Church Of God in Lexington.

The funeral will be held at the church Friday morning at 11:00.
