Freezing Temperatures Cause Trouble On Lexington Streets

Icy conditions caused dozens of drivers problems today in Fayette County.

Icy conditions caused dozens of drivers problems today in Fayette County.

The rain and snow that fell early Thursday morning froze as temperatures dropped below freezing in the afternoon.

Lexington Police said there were around 30 accidents before 6 p.m.

Some roads, like Virginia Avenue, turned into sheets of ice.

Several officers were on the scene of a collision on Big Run and Stone Road that involved several vehicles.

A driver on Man O’ War Boulevard lost control of his truck and ended up on the side of the road.

Kentucky American Water workers are looking into what caused a water break on South Limestone and Huguelet Avenue. Water gushed into the street outside of UK’s Hospital Clinic.

Another accident happened on Upper and 5th Street around 7:30 p.m.

The Lexington Street and Road Department prepared its salt trucks early in the day, but said they didn’t treat the roads while it was raining because the salt would have been washed off the roads.

Crews went out around 8 p.m. and will be out throughout the night.
