Franklin Sheriff: Driver Flips Car, Pulled Out by 4 Soldiers

Franklin County deputies responded to East I-64 at around 5:45 Sunday afternoon for an SUV that had crashed at MM 58.
Franklin County deputies were sent to East I-64 at around 5:45 Sunday afternoon after getting a call about an SUV that had crashed at mile marker 58.  Officials say it was fully engulfed in flames, with a person trapped inside.

When deputies arrived, they said the man driving the SUV had already been pulled out. They said four military soldiers (three active, one retired) sto, pped to help the driver cut his seat belt and dragged him to safety.

The driver was Raymond Burdett of Ontario, Canada. He said the SUV he rented dropped off the median and he over-corrected to try to get back on the roadway, causing him to go off the road's shoulder and into a rocky ditch line.

Witnesses say the vehicle flipped three times before landing on its roof and bursting into flames.

Burdett was flown to UK Hospital and has been listed in fair condition.

A witness managed to capture video of the driver's rescue, which can be seen here:
