A Franklin County couple pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty charges Monday.

Police say Sandra and William Coy had nearly two dozen dogs, along with other animals, living in filthy conditions in their Frankfort home.

The Coys are charged with 23 counts of animal cruelty.

They're being held on a $46,000 bond and are due back in court on August 28th.

According to court records, the couple faced similar charges four years ago in Laurel County.

Court documents also show that later that same year, the Coys faced another animal cruelty charge in Franklin County.

Officials have removed the animals from the Coy’s home.

They’re being housed at the Franklin County Humane Society.

And the influx of animals is hard on the shelter.

Workers tell ABC 36 that they’re having a tough time taking care of all of the animals.

They’re asking the community for help.
