Fire ripped through a six-unit apartment complex on Harrodsburg Lane in Frankfort late Tuesday morning.

Firefighters said the fire was out of control when they arrived, with heavy smoke visible.

Investigators said the six units were a total loss.

Firefighters said at least one dog died and that other pet deaths were possible.

Investigators said two firefighters went to the hospital, one with cardiac problems and the other for heat exhaustion.  Both are expected to be okay.

A tenant injured a hand breaking out a window trying to escape the flames.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
