A series of crashes closed I-75 for hours late Monday night.

It happened just before 10:30 near mile marker 102.

Police say a man was driving southbound in a pickup truck when he dropped his cell phone. He bent down to pick it up, lost control of his vehicle and then hit the center wall.

That truck came to a rest in the center lane, facing the wrong way with no headlights.

Police say the driver got out of his truck and that’s when a second car came along and hit it head-on.

A third and fourth car then crashed into the wreckage.

The driver of the second car had to be cut from his vehicle and was taken to UK Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Two other people were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
