Former Teacher Sentenced For Sex Crimes

        A Shelby County teacher will serve probation after pleading guilty to sex charges involving students at her school. 

        42-year-old Shannon Hirchert admitted to having five sexual encounters with one student and one encounter with another.

        Hichert was a special-needs teacher at Martha Layne Collins High School last year when it all happened.

        None of the students involved were in her classes.

        She will be on probation for five years and will have to give up her teaching certificate, register as a sex offender, and finish a treatment program.
