Former Teacher Accused Of Sexual Abuse To Appear In Court

A dance instructor and former teacher in the Fayette County School System is accused of sexually abusing a young boy.

A dance instructor and former teacher in the Fayette County School System is accused of sexually abusing a young boy.

Jason Thompson was a special education teacher and the head of the Dance Team at Leestown Middle School.

Thompson is accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy in the summer of 2009.

A spokesperson for the school district says officials first heard of the allegations last June.

When they questions Thompson, he resigned.

We went to Thompson’s home this afternoon to get his side of the story, but no one answered.

School officials say the reported incidents did not happen on school grounds.

And as soon as they allegations surfaced, a complaint was sent to the Educational Standards Board.

The school district also says that Thompson’s criminal background check was clean.

Superintendent Tom Shelton says the most important thing is the safety of the children. And it’s something the district takes very seriously.

Thompson is a well-known Zumba teacher, even being featured as a playable character in a Zumba video game.

According to Thompson’s uniform citation, he is due in court for the first time tomorrow afternoon.
