A former Fayette County teacher pleaded guilty Thursday to sexual abuse involving a 13-year-old boy.

Jason Thompson worked for the school system for five years.

He eventually became a special education teacher.

Thompson spent most of his teaching time at Leestown Middle School.

He resigned from his teaching position when school officials confronted him about the charges.

When the allegations surfaced in July of 2012, Superintendent Tom Shelton said the abuse did not occur on school grounds.

Thompson was also a nationally-known instructor of Zumba Fitness.

Zumba revoked his license when the charges were brought against Thompson.

He will be required to join the sex offender registry.

Thompson is scheduled to be sentenced on April 25th.
