Former Lexington Teacher Accused Of Sexual Abuse

School officials say a former special education teacher is accused of sexually abusing a minor.
A former Lexington school teacher will be heading to court on sexual abuse charges Thursday.

A citation filed in Fayette District Court says Jason Thompson, 31, is accused of performing oral sex on a 13-year-old boy and fondling him.

Fayette County School officials say the alleged incidents did not happen on school grounds.

Thompson worked for the district a total of five years. During that time, he went from substituting to becoming a certified special education teacher.

The majority of his time working for the school system was spent teaching at Leestown Middle School, school officials say.

The district said that the Leestown Middle School principal, Jennifer Kendall, first heard allegations of possible sexual abuse in June of 2011. That same month, she took action...sending a complaint to the Educational Standards Board.

Less than two weeks later, Thompson resigned from the district.

Officials add his background check, performed with every new hire, was completely clear.

Thompson is a well-known Zumba teacher, and was featured as a playable character in a video game.

He'll be in court Thursday at 1 p.m.
