He was remembered as a devoted public servant and a good man.

The funeral was Monday for John McFadden.

He served as Lexington's Chief of Police from 1980 to 1990.

McFadden died last Thursday at the age of 78.

Services were held at Saint Paul Catholic Church.

McFadden became a police officer in 1957 and moved up through the ranks, before becoming Chief 23 years later.

His nephew remembers a wonderful human being.

William McFadden says, "He was a kind man, a loving man, he loved nothing better than UK Basketball, his children, his grandchildren, his nieces and nephews. He was a tremendous storyteller. Some of the things that we only saw in the newspaper or in a little blurb on television, he could tell you the story of. A good man, a good example, and a very good example of a friend to the community."

McFadden also spent 25 years in the Kentucky Army National Guard.
