Former Lexington Assistant Police Chief Ulysses Berry has passed away.
Mr. Berry was a police officer for 41-years, which included a stint as interim Police Chief in Lexington.

During Assistant Chief Berry’s 41-year career [1964-2005], his exemplary leadership, consummate professionalism and positive influence made an indelible impact on the Division of Police and on the community he so proudly served. His patient guidance and management skills benefitted a variety of Division functions; including Patrol, Investigations and Internal Affairs. His lengthy stewardship of the Bureau of Community Services contributed significantly to the ongoing success of many outstanding community relations programs, including the nationally-recognized
Assistant Chief Berry’s tireless work ethic, wisdom, leadership abilities and unparalleled commitment to public service garnered him countless awards and recognitions throughout his career, including the 1991 Law Day Award and the 2004 Division of Police Distinguished Service Award. His personnel file is overflowing with more than 200 letters of appreciation from numerous community organizations, law enforcement agencies and partners in public safety.
Assistant Chief Berry’s impact on the Division of Police cannot be measured in numbers, awards, or titles. His impact over four decades is truly immeasurable His abiding commitment to public service and his highly visible leadership and stewardship of the Division of Police truly made a difference in our agency and in our community.
Assistant Chief Berry was highly respected by all who had the privilege to know him or work with him. His many beneficial contributions, his countless accomplishments and his many acts of kindness over the years leave a legacy of leadership and dedication for others to attempt to emulate.
Assistant Chief Berry will be missed. Today the Division of Police mourns the passing of a dedicated public servant and great friend.
