Former Kentucky State Trooper Michael Pennington was sentenced to 74-months in prison for drug trafficking and carrying a firearm while trafficking prescription narcotics, according to federal prosecutors.

Pennington also tried to trade a woman drugs in exchange for sex, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said Pennington was off duty at the time, but was still in full uniform, carrying his gun, when he gave the woman the drugs.

He previously worked out of the State Police post in London.

After he serves at least 85-percent of his sentence, he will be on supervised probation for four years.
