A former Eastern Kentucky University student, who was charged with arson on campus, pleaded guilty to lesser charges as part of a plea deal, according to a report in the Richmond Register.

Samuel McFarland, of Williamsburg, was accused of setting two bulletin boards on fire in a dormitory in 2011.

The newspaper reported he pleaded guilty to the lesser charges of Criminal Mischief and Wanton Endangerment.

In the newspaper report, the judge said if McFarland paid for the damage and received drug and alcohol treatment, he wouldn't do any jail time.
