Flooding Shuts Down New Circle Road

Lexington Police closed a portion of New Circle Road early Tuesday morning due to flooding.

Flooding closed a portion of New Circle Road early Tuesday morning.

Police shut down the outer loop between Young Road and Liberty Road after an officer on patrol noticed the deep water under the RJ Corman railroad tracks.

Police originally had both lanes of the outer loop shut down, but later opened the left lane to allow some traffic through.

Anyone traveling on the outer loop of New Circle should find an alternate route, police said. Heavy traffic delays are expected from Richmond Road to Liberty Road.

As of 5:25 a.m., road crews were on the scene working to find why the water wasn’t draining. Streets and roads workers could not give an estimate on what time the road would be re-opened.

As with any flooding, drivers should be reminded to never drive through standing water. It can be can be much deeper than it appears.
