Flemingsburg Flash Flood

As much as five inches of rain dumped on Flemingsburg in a hours time Wednesday morning, causing minor damage and forcing some businesses to close.
Flemingsburg was hit with a mid morning downpour, laced with thunder and lightening, Wednesday.  The county’s highway department reported five inches of rain.  Dorothy Brown said the rain gage at her house measured six inches in an hour.

"It is crazy, I welcome the rain but I don't like the storms,” Brown, a Fleming County native, said with a laugh.

The creek that cuts through downtown was still moving rapidly three hours after the flash flood.

The steeple on top of the dome of the Fleming County Judicial Centered was splintered by a bolt of lightening.  Security guard Burt Wriston said “it sounded like a bomb went off” when the lightening struck.

The two pieces of the fiberglass tip of the dome were found in the street after the thunderstorm.
