First For The Special Olympics

It's a first for the Special Olympics and Lexington.
It's a first for Lexington, a Special Olympics flag football tournament.  13 teams from all over the commonwealth gathered today at Henry Clay High School.  Flag football is the most recent addition to the Special Olympics calendar.

"It's a blast. We've got some awesome athletes. You'd be amazed at what some of these kids can do. I've got one kid that can throw the ball 60 yards in the air," says Coach Dennis Gaines.

"We're trying. We struggled a little bit on offense. Like, we couldn't find an open man. We just got a lot of work to do on offense. I scored one touchdown on offense, and larry scored the other touchdown. We did fine. Our defense was impressive today. We just got to work more on offense a little bit," explains Ryan Barts.

The winner will eventually move on to a state tournament in Richmond in June.
