The Scott County Fire Department said they came to the aid of two horses who wandered to the middle of a frozen pond and fell in.

They said the ice in the middle of the pond was thinner than the outer layers.

Fire crews used a chainsaw to break through the ice to get the horses out.

Two firefighters had to put on water suits and get into the freezing pond to help with the rescue.

They said one of the horses was able to get out on its own after a pathway was cut. The other horse was guided out with a rope that was slipped around its neck.

A veterinarian who was called after the rescue said both horses will be okay.
