Fire Disrupts Operation At Berea Plant

Fire in an unoccupied hot bag room at Berea's Novelis plant requires emergency responders

Crews worked until early Wednesday morning at Novelis to put a fire out. A spokesperson for Novelis said no one was hurt in the fire.

It started around 12:30 Wednesday morning in a hot bag room. A Novelis spokesperson said there are a couple of these rooms on the grounds. No one works in the rooms, they're meant for purification of hot aluminum and other materials.

That spokesperson said someone saw smoke coming from the room and called emergency responders.

A couple of employees from a factory across from Novelis said they've seen crews respond multiple times to the factory.

The Novelis spokesperson said if there is going to be a fire, it's most likely going to happen there but there hasn't been a serious fire since April of last year.

Tichenor said he didn’t know when the room will be functioning again but the fire did not affect the employees. First shift started right on schedule.
