A Richmond firefighter was home when a car fire spread to his house.

Investigators said the firefighter was working on his car Tuesday when something in vehicle exploded.

The fire reportedly spread to the garage and house.

The firefighter was not hurt.

Meanwhile crews took turns battling the flames.

They also drank extra fluids in the hot summer heat.
