The Lexington Fire Department is looking for an arsonist.

The fire department believes somebody intentionally set a fire last night at Hollow Creek Condominiums.

The fire department estimates the fire caused about $15,000 in damage.

The fire dept. arrived around 10:30 Sunday night.  Bretha Mitchell was watching TV.

"I had never been, you know, in something like that before," said Mitchell.

Firefighters knocked on her door, and told her she had to come outside.

"It like scared me to death.  It really did, and then when they came back and told us we had to get out, because we might get trapped up there, so that really scared me.  Didn't know what was going on," said Mitchell.

The fire department says somebody started a fire.

"Clearly arson," said Battalion Chief Joe Best.

In the closet of a vacant condo on the building's bottom floor.

"The details, of course, we kind of keep close to the vest, so that we don't interfere with the investigation, but our investigators have determined that it was intentionally set," said Best.

The fire department says people could have died, because somebody set a fire in an occupied building at night; however, nobody was hurt.

"It was just lucky it wasn't real late at night, because we'd all would have been asleep, or something," said Mitchell.

The Lexington Fire Department is asking anyone with information to contact the arson hotline at 859-231-5672 or online at arsontips@lexingtonky.gov.
