Appalachian states have seen an upswing in marijuana growth, and some blame the continuing sluggish economy.

Ed Shemelya, with the Office of National Drug Control Policy, says crews have found and cut more than 1.1 million plants, worth more than two billion dollars, in Tennessee, Kentucky, and West Virginia so far in 2011. That's an increase of more than 100-thousand plants from 2010.

Shemelya says the sour economy might have prompted more people to turn to marijuana growing, as a way of making money.
