Fayette School Superintendent Resting At Home After Falling Ill

Fayette County Public Schools Superintedent Tom Shelton is resting at home after falling ill Wednesday morning. Hospital tests determined it was a blood pressure issue, according to a release from the school district.
Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Tom Shelton was resting at home Wednesday evening after falling ill earlier in the day.

According to a release from the school district, Shelton became light-headed and nauseous shortly after 10:30 a.m.

A colleague took Shelton to the emergency room as a precaution, according to the school district.

After a battery of tests, it was determined that Shelton's illness was due to an issue with his blood pressure, according to the district release.

He was sent home to rest just before 5:00 p.m.

Shelton was expected back to work on Thursday.

"Thank you for the uplifting messages and well-wishes so many of you sent today," Shelton said.  "High blood pressure runs in my family and I need to pay close attention to my health."
