In an email sent to school employees, Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Tom Shelton said $20 million will be cut from this year's budget.

He said the district had lost a substantial amount of funding on state and federal levels.

Shelton said as expenses continue to go up, finding news ways to be more efficient are necessary to present a balanced budget to the school board in May.

Although his email stated they had strived to secure teachers' jobs in the past, there was no word on whether there would be layoffs in this instance.
