Fallen Soldier Inspires Care Packages

PFC Dustin Gross is the inspiration of new support for his comrades.
The memory of a soldier is inspiring new support for his comrades.

Private First Class Dustin Gross of Montgomery County was killed in Afghanistan in May.

His death prompted a community effort to create and send care packages for the other members of his unit.

Organizers mailed 142 packages Monday. They contain toiletries and snacks, and something extra special: a handwritten note. The note pays tribute to Gross, and thanks soldiers for their sacrifice.

The packages were sent to the unit's chaplain, who will personally hand them to the troops.
