FCPS: Shooting Threat a Social Media Fueled Rumor

Fayette County Public School Officials say the threat of a school shooting at Tates Creek High School was a rumor spread through social media.
Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tom Shelton says the threat of a shooting taking place at Tates Creek High School was a false rumor spread through social media over the weekend.

Dr. Shelton says the District and law enforcement investigated the threat all weekend and could not find the source of the rumor nor any signs that a shooting would occur.

Officials say the student that was alleged to of made the threat was unaware that the rumor were being spread about him.

Dr. Shelton says that student was not in school Monday, but is not being punished. School officials say they were investigating whether this was a case of cyber bullying.

Students at TCHS say they noticed a considerable amount of students missing on Monday.
