Employee Arrested For Allegedly Stealing $15,000

An employee of the Baker Iron and Metal Company was arrested for stealing around $15,000 Monday.
An employee was arrested Sunday for stealing around $15,000 from his workplace, according to Lexington police.

 Matthew Spurling, 24, is accused of stealing money from the safe at Baker Iron and Metal Company.
 He was arrested at the business at 1558 Old Frankfort Pike around 6 a.m.

According to court documents, the theft was caught on surveillance video.

Court documents said Spurling is on suspension from the business and his girlfriend was recently fired.  Those documents also said the couple had knowledge of the company's safe combination.

The Fayette County Detention Center's website said Spurling is being held there.  Jail officials said his bail is set at $5,025.

Officials also said his arraignment will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Fayette County District Court.
