Work crews will soon start the job of rebuilding the Eggners Ferry Bridge in Western Kentucky.

Part of that bridge collapsed after being hit by a barge in late January.

The state announced Thursday that a $7 million emergency contract has been awarded for the repair work.

The state's goal is to have the bridge open for traffic on memorial day weekend which is the start of the summer boating season.

The company that will do the work is the same contracting firm that recently completed repairs to the Sherman Minton Bridge in Louisville.
