State workers doing business on behalf of the Commonwealth will now be able to drive hybrid electric cars.

Four Chevy Volts were officially added to the fleet in a ceremony led by First Lady Jane Beshear outside the headquarters for the Department for Environmental Protection.

She said the cars will help fulfill the Governor's Energy Plan which calls for a 30% improvement in fuel economy of the state vehicle fleet by 2015 and 50% improvement by 2025.

The Division of Fleet Management has also ordered two Chevy Volts to use for postal delivery in Frankfort hoping to make the state's carbon footprint even smaller.

The vehicles and charging stations were bought with grant funding by the Kentucky Clean Fuels Coalition.
